Sweet Bonanza: How the Candy Slot Works (Guide for Malaysian Players)

Sweet Bonanza is one of the best-known slots from Pragmatic Play and a regular in the "popular" tab of almost every Malaysian online casino. Released in June 2019, it swapped classic paylines for a "pay anywhere" candy grid, tumbling wins and multiplier bombs — a format that has since been copied by countless other games. This guide explains how Sweet Bonanza actually works, what the RTP numbers mean, which versions exist, and how to play it sensibly.

18+ only. Slot results are random. Play for entertainment, within a budget you can afford to lose.

How Sweet Bonanza pays: "pay anywhere"

There are no paylines. After each spin, the game counts how many of each symbol are on the screen. If 8 or more matching symbols land anywhere on the 6×5 grid, you win. More matching symbols pay more — the top tiers usually need 10–12 symbols.

The symbols are fruits (lower pays) and candies (higher pays). The lollipop is the scatter.

The tumble feature

Every win triggers a tumble: the winning symbols disappear, the remaining symbols drop down, and new symbols fall in from the top. If the new layout creates another win, it tumbles again. This continues until no new wins form.

That means one paid spin can produce several wins in a row. It also explains why Sweet Bonanza can feel "streaky" — most spins pay nothing, and some spins chain together several wins.

Free spins and multiplier bombs

Triggering free spins

Land 4 or more lollipop scatters anywhere on the grid. Four, five or six scatters pay 3×, 5× or 100× your bet respectively, and award 10 free spins.

During free spins, landing 3 or more scatters again adds 5 more free spins.

Multiplier bombs

This is where Sweet Bonanza's big-win potential sits. In the free spins round, colourful multiplier bomb symbols can land, each carrying a value from 2× up to 100×. When the tumble sequence ends, all the bomb values on screen are added together and applied to the total win of that tumble sequence.

Example: a tumble sequence wins 2× your bet, and bombs of 5×, 10× and 25× are on the grid. 5 + 10 + 25 = 40×, so the win becomes 2 × 40 = 80× your bet.

If no win forms, the bombs pay nothing — that is why many free spins rounds end smaller than players hope.

Ante Bet and Buy Free Spins

  • Ante Bet — increases your bet by 25%. In return, the game adds more scatters to the reels, improving your chance of triggering free spins.
  • Buy Free Spins — pay 100× your bet to go straight into the free spins round. You cannot use it while Ante Bet is on, and some casinos or regulated markets disable it.

Neither option changes the randomness of the game. They only change how you spend your budget: Ante Bet makes each spin more expensive, and Buy Free Spins concentrates a big chunk of your budget on one feature round.

Sweet Bonanza RTP: which number is real?

RTP (Return to Player) is the theoretical percentage of all bets a game pays back over a very large number of spins. For Sweet Bonanza, review sources cite figures between about 96.48% and 96.51% for the standard version, depending on which mode you play (base, Ante Bet, or bonus buy).

Important: Pragmatic Play lets casinos choose reduced-RTP versions of the same game, so the RTP you get can be lower than the standard figure — check the info screen at your casino. The game looks identical either way.

How to check: open the game, tap the info (ⓘ) / paytable screen and scroll to the bottom. The RTP for that casino's version is listed there. More background in our RTP & volatility guide.

Sweet Bonanza versions

Pragmatic Play has released several follow-ups. Check which one you are opening, because RTP, max win and features differ:

  1. Sweet Bonanza — the 2019 original.
  2. Sweet Bonanza Xmas — Christmas-themed reskin with the same core mechanics.
  3. Sweet Bonanza 1000 — updated version with higher bomb multipliers (up to 1,000×).
  4. Sweet Bonanza CandyLand — not a slot, but a live game show from Pragmatic Play Live built on the same theme. See our Pragmatic Play Live guide.

Tips for playing Sweet Bonanza

  1. Try the demo first if your casino offers it — learn how tumbles and bombs work without risking money.
  2. Size your bet for high volatility. Long dry spells are normal. A common rule is no more than 1% of your session budget per spin.
  3. Treat Bonus Buy with caution. At 100× your bet per buy, a few unlucky rounds can empty a budget very quickly.
  4. Check the RTP in the info screen before you start.
  5. Ignore "pattern", "jam gacor" or hack claims. Every spin comes from a random number generator; time of day and previous spins do not matter.
  6. Set a stop-loss and stop-win before you start — and stop when you reach either.

FAQ

Who makes Sweet Bonanza?
Pragmatic Play. The original Sweet Bonanza was released in June 2019.

What is the RTP of Sweet Bonanza?
The standard version is around 96.5%, but casinos can run lower-RTP versions. Check the info screen inside the game at your casino.

Do multiplier bombs appear in the base game?
In the original Sweet Bonanza, multiplier bombs land during the free spins round. Check the paytable of the version you play, as spin-offs can work differently.

What is the maximum win in Sweet Bonanza?
The original game is capped at 21,100× your bet. Newer versions such as Sweet Bonanza 1000 have different limits.

Is Ante Bet worth it?
It makes free spins more likely but each spin costs 25% more. It does not make the game "easier to win" — it changes how your budget is spent.

Is there a trick or best time to play Sweet Bonanza?
No. Results are random and certified; no time of day, pattern or app changes the outcome.
