Baccarat Bets & Odds: What Each Bet Really Pays

Search for "baccarat strategy" and you will find systems, signal groups and roadmap "formulas" promising steady profits. The honest truth is simpler: baccarat has some of the lowest house edges in the casino, but every bet still has one, and no betting pattern removes it. This guide lays out what each bet pays, how often it wins, what it costs you in the long run, and why popular systems don't change the maths.

Key terms

  • Payout – what a winning bet pays, e.g. 1:1 means you win RM10 on a RM10 bet.
  • House edge – the average percentage of each bet the casino keeps over the long run. A 1.06% edge means an average loss of about RM1.06 per RM100 wagered — over thousands of hands, not in any single session.
  • Commission – a fee taken from winning Banker bets (usually 5%).
  • Push – your bet is returned; you neither win nor lose.

Probabilities of each outcome (8 decks)

Outcome Approx. probability
Banker wins 45.86%
Player wins 44.62%
Tie 9.52%

If you ignore ties, Banker wins about 50.7% of decided hands and Player about 49.3%. That small Banker advantage comes from the third-card drawing rules, and it is why Banker bets carry a commission.

The main bets

Bet Payout House edge (8 decks)
Banker 1:1 minus 5% commission (0.95:1) ~1.06%
Player 1:1 ~1.24%
Tie 8:1 ~14.36%
Tie (if paid 9:1) 9:1 ~4.84%

Banker

The best bet in standard baccarat. Even after the 5% commission, the house edge is only about 1.06%. Example: a RM100 Banker win pays RM95.

Player

Pays even money with no commission. Its edge (~1.24%) is only slightly higher than Banker's, so it is a perfectly reasonable choice too.

Tie

The 8:1 payout looks attractive, but a Tie only happens about 9.5% of the time. At 8:1, the house edge is around 14.36% — more than ten times that of Banker. On a Tie, Banker and Player bets are normally returned as a push.

Pair bets and other side bets

Side bet Wins when… Typical payout House edge (8 decks)
Player Pair Player's first two cards are a pair 11:1 ~10.36%
Banker Pair Banker's first two cards are a pair 11:1 ~10.36%
Other side bets (e.g. Super 6 / Lucky 6, bonus bets) Varies Varies by table Usually well above the main bets

Side bets can make a session more exciting, but they cost far more over time than Banker or Player. Payouts for side bets differ between providers and even between tables — on AE Sexy and any other live studio, open the table's paytable before betting.

No-commission baccarat

Many live tables offer a no-commission (or "Super 6") mode. Banker wins pay 1:1 with no 5% fee — except a Banker win with a total of 6, which pays only 1:2 (half your stake).

That rule raises the Banker house edge to roughly 1.46%, so no-commission Banker is actually slightly worse than standard Banker. The Player bet is unchanged at about 1.24%. "No commission" is a convenience, not a better deal.

Why betting systems don't beat the edge

Every system works by changing how much you bet, not what you bet on. Because each hand's odds are the same regardless of bet size, the house edge applies to every ringgit you wager.

Martingale (double after a loss)

The idea: double your bet after each loss so the first win recovers everything plus one unit. In practice:

Hand Bet Result Running total
1 RM10 Lose –RM10
2 RM20 Lose –RM30
3 RM40 Lose –RM70
4 RM80 Lose –RM150
5 RM160 Lose –RM310
6 RM320 Lose –RM630
7 RM640 ? Needed just to win RM10

Losing streaks of six or more happen far more often than most people expect over a long session. When one arrives, you either run out of money or hit the table maximum, and the system locks in a large loss. Martingale produces many small wins and occasional big losses — the average result is still the house edge.

Paroli, Fibonacci, 1-3-2-6 and flat "streak" betting

These rearrange bet sizes in different ways. None changes the probability of the next hand, so none changes the expected loss per ringgit wagered.

Roadmaps and "signals"

Roadmaps record past results. Cards don't remember previous hands, so a Banker streak doesn't make Player "due". Groups selling "AI signals" or "roadmap formulas" cannot predict a shuffled shoe — treat them as a red flag.

Card counting

In theory, tracking cards can shift baccarat odds very slightly near the end of a shoe, but the effect on the main bets is tiny and live tables usually reshuffle well before it matters. It isn't a practical strategy.

What actually helps

  1. Choose the lowest-edge bets — Banker (standard), then Player.
  2. Avoid Tie at 8:1 and keep side bets small and occasional.
  3. Prefer standard commission tables if you mostly bet Banker.
  4. Size bets to your budget — 1–2% of your session bankroll per hand.
  5. Set a stop-loss and stop-win before you start, and stick to them.
  6. Remember the speed — fast live rounds mean more hands per hour, and more total wagered.

FAQ

What is the best bet in baccarat?
Banker at a standard 5% commission table, with a house edge of about 1.06%. Player is close behind at about 1.24%.

Is there a winning baccarat strategy?
No. Betting systems change bet sizes, not odds. Over time, results trend toward the house edge of the bets you choose.

Why is the Tie bet bad if it pays 8:1?
Because a Tie happens only about 9.5% of the time. To be fair, it would need to pay roughly 9.5:1; at 8:1 the house edge is about 14.36%.

Is no-commission baccarat better?
Usually not for Banker bettors. Paying half on a Banker 6 raises the edge to about 1.46%, higher than standard Banker.

Does Martingale work in baccarat?
It wins small amounts often but suffers occasional large losses when a losing streak meets your budget or the table limit. It does not change the house edge.
